Market Alert: The Innovation Press

I know that many of us keep our eyes open for new markets so I was excited to read about The Innovation Press on Tara Lazar’s blog.  This small publisher is looking for manuscripts for readers K-5.  Does your work fit in this age range?  Then it doesn’t matter if it is a picture book, chapter book, middle grade, graphic novel or workbook, they are interested.

That said, they do have different submissions requirements for different types of work so be sure to read up those before you try to send in your work.  Me?  I’m interested in them because they like books that teach.  It doesn’t matter if your manuscript is nonfiction or fiction with strong nonfiction elements, teaching is key.  This is a publisher who pays both an advance and royalties.

This, from the post on Lazar’s site, piqued my interest. “We love titles that promote creativity, diversity, laughter, and learning. If you take a close look, you’ll find that almost all of our 2017 titles are hybrid texts (a mix between fiction and nonfiction).”  I’ve already picked through their catalog and requested Zoey and Sassafras, Dragons and Marshmallows, through my local library.

Of course, I’m “supposed” to be sending my work to agents but . . . a good book is still a good book.
