Starting a New Writing Year

Filed under: Uncategorized — suebe @ 1:16 am

grandma's chinaGet out your favorite coffee cup and, while things are brewing, relax a bit here in early 2015.

Think about what you accomplished with your writing in 2014.  I lost a job when The Institute of Children’s Literature quit publishing Children’s Writer  newsletter.  How is that an accomplishment?  My editor moved on to Schoolwide and put out a call for manuscripts.  Reprints or originals, they would be produced as e-books.  All four reprints I submitted were accepted and are in production.

In 2013, I applied to write for Red Line Editorial.  In 2014, right after I found out about Children’s Writer, they contacted me about writing about an ancient culture.  I chose the Maya and turned in my first book.  This fall, I wrote about Pearl Harbor.  In 2015, I’m wrapping up a manuscript on the Cuban Missile Crisis.

I’d like to get more of my own book manuscripts out there in 2015.  Of course, that means getting better about meeting my own deadlines.  It might also mean looking for an agent.  I’m going to spend a few weeks weighing various ideas.  What are your plans for 2015?
