How to Succeed as a Writer

Can you guess where I am every weekday? You can have summer and write, too!

“Be so good they can’t ignore you.”
Steve Martin

Sound advice, but what does it take to be a good writer?

It really isn’t a huge secret.  The very best writers write.  Even if they have full time jobs, families or health problems.

This doesn’t mean that your writing pace won’t change as your circumstances change.  Anyone who tells you otherwise lives in an enchanted (or delusional) place.

But it does mean that you need to make an effort to write even if the kids are home for the summer.  For some tips on how to pull this off, check out my Muffin post, “Writing with the Kids Home.”

Not that I was doing any writing when this went live.  Saturday, I was working a swim meet.  You won’t manage to write every day, but even with the hordes home for the summer, you can write if you really want to do it.  You’ll just need to retrain everyone  . . .

Including yourself.
