Researching Archaeology and Architecture of Scotland

Writing something that features historic or prehistoric Scotland?  Than make a virtual research visit to RCAHMS, the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland.

So far the database encompasses some 280,000 sites although not all information listed is available electronically.  Still, it may be worth your while to take a look.  I wish I had had this when I was roughing a picture book that opens in historic Scotland.  I needed to know how Highland and sea side cottages differed.  Eventually, I turned to modern real estate descriptions, but this searchable site would have been a huge help.

Special thanks to Research Buzz for drawing this resource to my attention.
